While the series was really good, honestly there's a bunch of material that doesn't hold up all that well today (279 is a lot of episodes after all!). I suspect that stuff is why we haven't seen full season releases thus far. Music was a big part of the show and there were lots of guest stars so I could see rights issues holding up a complete set release on DVD. When/if they ever release a full set, it would be a very big set with 279 episodes. To my knowledge, all of the releases have been of the "Best of" variety. If they had a guest star, they'd often work him/her into the family sketches. Those are the episodes that didn't have guest stars. If I had to guess, I would say it was either episode 2, 5, 7, 8, or 10. So, somewhere between episode one and 11 of the Fall 1977 season. Dick didn't feel he was a good fit and left after the 11th episode of the season. I don't know exactly what episode the elephant sketch is from but it's from season 11 because that's the show's final year and Dick Van Dyke had replaced Harvey. Conway wont let the skit continue until finishes a story about a circus elephant.Tim Conway. So, the writers' work was often never seen by the home audience.
